The author emphasizes how babies, even as young as 6 months, are capable of learning and using simple signs to express their needs and emotions long before they can speak. Each sign is introduced with a brief description of its meaning, followed by clear, illustrated instructions on how to make the sign. The illustrations are simple, showing the proper hand and finger positions, which makes it easy for parents to follow along. Some editions also feature photos of babies performing the signs, which adds an extra layer of visual clarity. The book is organized into categories such as “Food and Drink,” “Daily Activities,” “Emotions,” and “Animals,” making it easy to learn the most relevant signs based on your childās immediate needs. Favorite book to begin with compared to others
I am so glad I got this one! I also got some other books but they are better as references. For starting this book is perfect:1. Everything you need to know to start is condensed to 23 pages. Itās concise and itās thorough and informative, well written and well edited.2. Itās colorful and easy to read. For someone who needs to skim fast, itās super easy to get the information very quickly.3. Pictures are amazing. Whoever illustrated this is a genius, the kids facial expressions actually match the signs which is not something you get in most books!! Part of sign language is facial expression and this book brilliantly captures it. E.g., the sign for ādogā has the boy actually looking like he is saying āhere boy!ā4. I will use this book the most at first, and as we add signs later will probably use the other reference books.5. each sign has āwhat to look forā or similar signs so you will more easily detect babyās imperfect first tries of signing so you donāt miss it. Very very useful.I think this book goes extremely well with the Baby Sign Language flash cards by Monta Briant and Iāll be using these two things together.

Great gift book for new parents
Bought as a gift for a new mom and dad. They were very excited to start learning some simple signs to use with their new baby. Love the detail in the large pictures, makes it simple to learn and see what to do. Well received by the new parents and they didnāt have one, so a unique baby gift. Softcover book, but seems sturdy, beautiful colors and print. Arrived undamaged.

Has helped me communicate with my 2 year old
This book has taught me a lot of new words that I started using day-to-day with my 2 year old. My little toddler has a speech delay so signing has helped a lot. I wish there were more useful signs like āfollow meā, ātrashā, ātowelā or āplateā⦠signs that I could use everyday. After reading this me and my baby learned āshoesā and āsocksā. I asked for her other books on my secret Santa list. Hopefully I get them for Christmas!

Great book. It’s not too long and it goes to the point quite quickly. There’s a brief introduction at the beginning of the book and then it goes directly to the signs sections. I find the tips for each sign very useful because sometimes it’s not easy to understand the sign from the picture.Looking forward to start signing with my daughter!
