Kept my girl dry in San Fran
Perfect fit for my 6 year old for a trip to the Bay Area! It’s not thick, but is an effective outer shell for keeping dry!

Columbia Girls’ Switchback II Jacket: Fashionable, Functional for Rainy Days
I recently purchased the Columbia Girls’ Switchback II Jacket for my daughter, and all in all, I am quite happy with it. We took it on a trip to Jackson Hole, and it did a great job keeping her dry in the rain. As any parent knows, finding a jacket that your kid actually likes is a win in itself, and this jacket met my daughter’s approval on the style front right away. She’s picky, so that’s saying something!Pros:1. Keeps My Daughter Dry:The most important thing I wanted from this jacket was protection from the rain, and it delivers. The Switchback II is water-resistant and does a fantastic job of keeping water out, even in heavier showers. We got caught in some rain during our trip to Jackson Hole, and my daughter stayed completely dry, which was a huge relief for me.2. Stylish:My daughter is very fashion-conscious, and I was so surprised that this jacket passed her “style test.” She just loves the bright color options; we went with a fun, vibrant hue. The jacket is sleek and modern, not too bulky, which is important for her, especially when she’s wearing it to school or out with friends. It’s become her go-to rainy-day jacket, even here in Texas.3. Adaptable for All Climates:While this jacket doesn’t provide a lot of warmth on its own, it’s perfect for rainy days in more temperate climates, such as at school in Texas or during the mild spring days in Jackson Hole. It’s lightweight and very breathable, which makes it ideal for layering over a fleece or hoodie when it’s colder.Cons:1. Not Warm Enough on Its Own:It keeps the rain off incredibly well, though this doesn’t add warmth to speak of. We experienced chilliness in Jackson Hole on this trip, and my daughter was able to feel a little chilly if not moving around much. I could have ordered it in a larger size to make her feel warmer by layering her up with some other items: fleece, jacket, etc. My lesson learned! In cold weather conditions, this jacket would be used along with other clothing for the proper temperature range desired by her.2. Fit:As I said, I’d suggest sizing up if you are planning on layering. It fits true to size, but there’s just not much room for layering, so if you’re in a colder climate or want to add a warm shell inside, I’d suggest going a size larger than you normally would. Conclusion:The Columbia Girls’ Switchback II Jacket is a good choice to keep your girl dry on rainy days and please her with its style. Ideal for mild weather or layered over warmer clothing for colder days, the Switchback II doesn’t offer much warmth itself but does exactly what it should – keep her dry and looking good. If you live in a cooler climate or need something for colder temperatures, just be sure to size up and add an extra layer underneath. Whether it’s for a trip to Jackson Hole or rainy school days in Texas, this jacket has quickly become a staple in my daughter’s wardrobe.

Love that this windbreaker is great quality, ultra packable and layered with a sweater underneath is awesome for cold rainy days. Sizing is a bit on tbe bigger size. The color works for both boys and girls

Gave to a niece because it was too big for grand daughter. Very good quality though and niece loves it!

    Thin and great fit
I bought this a little bigger just because so my daughter can wear a jacket inside during the chilly days and still have room to move around. Color is vibrant

    Lightweight
I like that it’s lightweight and windproof. It’s advertised as a raincoat, but it is not 100% rainproof. OK for running to the car or playing outside at recess, but you will eventually get wet if in the rain for any amount of time. It’s not insulated, but does a great job in cooler weather when wearing something for warmth under it. These kids versions do have a zipper to fold up and store the jacket in the pocket like my adult one does. Also, the elastic cuffs fit a little loose. They don’t need to be super tight, but my daughter outgrew hers and the cuff still wasn’t tight enough to prevent a draft up her sleeve.
