Developing my skills
I am really enjoying this book! I am a beginner trying to develop my sketching skills and find the prompts invaluable to help me expand my subject matter. I thought I was going to return this book, but instead I decided to try it. And I am glad I did!

Great for an artist who needs a refresher course
I held off from buying this for quite a while because of some of the reviews saying the prompts weren’t fun or exciting or helpful. I’m really glad I did buy it though. I took one star off because it should have been spiral bound, bound books are awkward to draw in, but that is my only complaint. When I received this I flipped through it, looking at the prompts and the first thing that came to mind is that the first section is a lot like what I did ages ago in my first sketching class. You’re drawing and shading objects that either are basic shapes or have been made a little more interesting (for example, a basketball instead of a plain sphere, an ice cream cone instead of a standard cone) so the first section was created very thoughtfully. A lot of people have left reviews complaining that this book isn’t for beginners because the exercises are too difficult. My friends please remember that even your favorite artist produced some profoundly awful work when they were a beginner. Just do your best, keep practicing, and when you’ve filled in this book it will surprise you to flip back to the beginning and see how far you’ve come. There are no reference pictures to go with the prompts or step by step example, but luckily the internet is ubiquitous and it’s easy to find your own reference picture if you don’t have something laying around that you can use.I like that there is just the prompt, I can choose my own reference and draw in my own style. I bought this intending to have it help me ease back into a habit of drawing daily and it’s doing just that.Edit 1/15/24 – I’m using rubber bands (see picture)to try to deal with the binding, and it helps but I still would have paid more if it had been spiral bound.

This is perfect
I bought this for my mom, who used to doodle and create a lot but kind of stalled out and needed a way to re-ignite her passion. This book is perfect for that. Highlights some good drawing tips and then has awesome prompts for her to try. It’s a soft cover book, but in great quality!

Not what I thought it was
The description shows you a little of what is inside, like most books do, and what it showed were some simple beginner’s drawing techniques. However, what you don’t see is that past the first few pages are just blank sheets with suggestions of what to draw on those pages. The title is accurate. It is a book of “prompts” suggesting what to draw on that page, but no instruction. This may be helpful for those just looking for ideas, but I was looking for more “how to”.

So many things to draw!
I got this for a post-surgery gift for my brother. With so many things to draw and choose from, it is a great tool to distract you (and ease anxiety, too!)Price is so great for what you get in this book. I think I will buy again for myself.

Great gift
My husband wanted to start drawing more. I got him this book as a gift for at work. I’m not sure if he is using it regularly, but looking at the book, the prompts were great. I wish they gave you more space to draw, but for a quick daily drawing exercise, this is perfect. It helps with creative block too since the prompt is already given to you.

Based on the pages that were shown in the ad, I thought the prompts would give more direction and guidance. Past the first few pages, it’s just ideas to draw…. I didn’t really want that.
