Helpful in understanding some of the intricacies of relationships
This is a helpful book for NDs who need to understand relationships better. My whole family of origin is on the spectrum, and being raised in this family left me clueless about social relationships. I have struggled my entire adult life with isolation. The hard part seems to be finding the right people. And there are also many subtleties about how relationships are structured and also flow that, if you haven’t had much emotional closeness with people, it’s just plain baffling. Thanks Kim for this helpful book. Aren’t books wonderful? You can spend 4 or 5 hours reading a book and obtain someone’s life and professional experiences just like that.

A lifeline for parents
This book includes great insights into dealing with kids that are on the autism and adhd spectrum. It is so important, regardless of any special needs, for kids to develop a social system in which they can operate comfortably. This book is a great help for guiding that development. One of the standout sections for me was the part that explains how to encourage our kids to be themselves while navigating social situations. It’s easy to feel like we need to “teach” them to fit in, but this book emphasizes the importance of helping them share their unique personalities. There are also great tips for helping neurodivergent children recognize social cues and how to set boundaries in friendships, which are often tricky areas. The information is well laid out and easy to understand without being too technical or overwhelming. I highly recommend.

Full of good information
This book is full of good information for parents trying to help neurodivergent children manage friendships. I especially liked the sections on friendship through the ages and how to recognize emotions in neurodivergent children. Those sections resonated with respect to my family.A little academic at points but overall a nice guide.

This is an amazing book written with empathy and a practical approach to making the life of a special child better and more accessible. It helped me understand certain behaviors, and I have to admit that several times, I thought, “Now, reading this—of course! Why did I not see or think of that before? “. Sometimes, we need someone to put the obvious in words and take us by the hand. There are just a few minor things that the author should consider correcting. I don’t know if they appear only on my side or not: In chapters 6 and 8, there are sometimes minor formatting issues, and a few sentences appear cut. See, for example: “Eye contact” or “Forgiveness and letting go of Grudges.”Nevertheless, the book is worth its five stars.
