understanding short vowels
This is an excellent book on the intro to phonics!!! The author makes it fun to learn. The practice and play is wonderful for hands on. This will also help reinforce the understanding of phonics. The child will want to read this over and over. And actually, the parent can copy the practice pages to further reinforce for the child if they happen to be struggling.

Make Reading Fun, Even for Your Struggling Reader
This book is a wonderful resource for helping young readers to learn their short vowel sounds and CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. A key component to learn in the basics of reading, this book allows kids to read numerous short stories that highlight various short vowel sounds. Each story also offers a black-and-white image that is meant to be colored, adding to the multisensory approach of this book. The practice and play portion of the book includes activities like a word hunt, draw and match, create a story of your own, fill-in-the-blanks, word sorting, and drawing what you read. So much imagination and learning will be unlocked in any reader as the book hits every aspect of possible learning styles—even for struggling learners. As a parent of a child with dyslexia, I appreciate the need and value of a resource like this. Happy Reading and Learning for all!

Reader beneficial for toddlers
A good reader series for starting your child off on reading and perhaps even spelling. The introduction to the short vowel sounds was well presented; the exercises included were interesting. Perhaps the exercises could have been more linked to the stories given in the reader.

Reading doesnt have to be boring
This book shows that reading can be fun. This book helps a struggling child learn a more effective way to read. Some step by step techniques that help comprehension when reading a book. The methods help a child’s confidence while they gain skills that help them later in life. It’s discussed that a child as young as 4 can benefit from the teachings in this book. I liked the cover in this book. The illustrations were good in helping the child stay engaged while reading this book.

An essential resource
More than a book, it is necessary resource for your child’s early education, especially because it illustrates and teaches the first steps of reading in a simple way. I liked how it is developed, focusing its pages on learning. The only thing I would have liked is to see more color in the book to make it more educational

I love that this book has pictures to colour with each lesson which will be great for motivation. The book contains a series of CVC words structured around five short vowels. In addition there are some fun lessons or quizzes for each set at the end. As a speech and language therapist, I find this book really helpful in therapy for auditory phonological awareness work as well. I recommend it!

This is a great activity book for parents to sit with their young child who is ready to learn to read. It features stories with simple CVC words that target the short vowel sounds in 5 chapters. Each short story has a picture for them to color and allows them to interact with the story. The last pages have activities that challenge their learning and encourage them to identify, compare and contrast the different sounds each letter makes. Kids will enjoy the look of this book, the font and the pictures are inviting with pages that are not overfilled. The picture formatting on Jen’s Egg Hunt was a little weird in the kindle version.
