“The Bad Guys” is a popular children’s book series written and illustrated by Aaron Blabey. The series, starting with “The Bad Guys” and followed by subsequent titles, blends humor, adventure, and a quirky cast of characters. Books 1-5 introduce readers to the main characters and set the stage for their hilarious and action-packed escapades.Book 1: The Bad GuysPlot: The series begins by introducing Mr. Wolf, Mr. Shark, Mr. Snake, and Mr. Piranha—four “bad guys” who decide to change their ways and become heroes. Despite their fearsome reputations, they set out to do good deeds, leading to humorous and chaotic situations.Themes: The book explores themes of redemption, friendship, and the idea that everyone deserves a second chance.Humor: The witty dialogue and funny situations are engaging for young readers, making it an enjoyable read.Book 2: Mission UnpluckablePlot: In their second adventure, the gang plans to rescue 10,000 chickens from a high-security cage farm. Their mission to thwart his evil plans is filled with unexpected twists and hilarious moments.Action and Suspense: This installment ramps up the action and introduces elements of suspense, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.Humor and Wit: The clever humor continues to be a highlight, appealing to both kids and adults.Book 4: Attack of the ZittensPlot: The gang encounters a new threat—zombie kittens (Zittens). Their attempts to deal with this bizarre situation lead to a series of funny and unpredictable events.Creativity: The introduction of Zittens showcases Blabey’s creativity and ability to keep the series fresh and exciting.Character Dynamics: The interactions among the characters become more nuanced, deepening the readers’ connection to them.Book 5: Intergalactic GasPlot: The Bad Guys’ latest adventure takes them to outer space, where they must stop a villainous plot involving alien gas. The high-stakes mission combines humor, action, and a touch of science fiction.World-Building: The space setting adds a new dimension to the series, expanding its scope and offering new storytelling opportunities.Educational Elements: While primarily humorous, the book also introduces some basic science concepts in a fun way.Pros and ConsPros:Engaging and humorous storytellingQuirky and likable charactersFast-paced plots with plenty of action and adventureVisually appealing illustrationsPositive messages about friendship and redemptionCons:Some humor might be too silly for older readersThe formulaic structure might feel repetitive over multiple booksConclusion”The Bad Guys” books 1-5 offer a delightful mix of humor, adventure, and heartwarming moments. Absolutely Hilarious, Fun for the Whole Family
We were not prepared for just *how* funny and charming these books turned out to be. Characterizations are great, the stories are wholesome (provided you don’t mind fart jokes), and the characters are great. The second series is also excellent and we’re excited to complete the set at the next available birthday.

Must buy for my 2nd grader, this author knows what the kiddos like
My son loves to read these books at night. They are humorous and silly and he’s loving it!!. We read 2-3 chapters a night and he wants to finish the book in one night but I like to keep him in suspense. We are both enjoying them very much. I love to see him enjoy reading. Definitely recommend this author, I have also bought him all of Pig the Pug books my son can read them over and over again.

Oh my gosh I am in love with these books! The premise is great and the writing and humor spot on. I read them out loud to my 4 and 6 year olds and know that in a few years they can read them again, on their own, and catch a lot more of the humor.

We tried this series as it’s pretty popular so my 7 year-old son has heard of it from his friends. We tried other booked but couldn’t really get him to read consistently, UNTIL this series. He’s hooked! It’s a graphic novel but has enough words in each page for my son to practice his reading. He’s able to read most of the words with some new vocabulary for him to learn. The stories are engaging and sometimes funny. I find my son giggling while reading it and he would summarize the plot for us after.
