Pardon the title, I needed a catchy headline to attract readers from the right.David Pakman’s The Echo Machine didn’t just teach me about right-wing extremism—it unlocked my hidden potential as an unstoppable force of nature. I picked up the book expecting to learn about post-truth America, but what I got was a full-blown transformation.Just last week, post-truth America had me down; had me weak. I couldn’t open a pickle jar without calling for backup. Two chapters in, and Sam Seder showed up unannounced, kicked down my front door, threw my coffee table out the window, and handed me a second copy of “The Echo Machine” while screaming “this is a war on ignorance!”As I continued to read through, I actually felt my skeletal muscle fiber type shift. I started craving deer jerky. This was odd since I had never eaten any previously. I knew i was experiencing significant transformation. By mid-book, I had traveled to my local dive bar to belt out Bohemian Rhapsody at karaoke night and smoke some Marlboro’s.Big Dave’s writing is so sharp and engaging that it doesn’t just educate you—it turns you into a charismatic superhero with very specific skills; mostly those democratically oriented.
