An empowering, uplifting tale of two women from opposite sides of society, and their extraordinary journey of sisterhood, betrayal, love and triumph.
1800s China.Ā Tightly bound feet, or “golden lilies,” are the mark of an honorable woman, eclipsing beauty, a rich dowry and even bloodline in the marriage stakes. But when scandal strikes the Fongs, both women are cast out to the Celibate Sisterhood, where Little Flowerās artistic prowess catches the eye of a nobleman. His attention threatens not only her improved status, but her lifeāthe Sisterhood punishes disobedience with death. And if Linjing finds out, will she sabotage Little Flower to reclaim her power, or will she protect her?Ā

Review
The.Lotus.Shoes.presented good material to understand much of China. Foot binding looks like it was very painful. The Chinese customs are not at all near the same Par as the Western world.

Same old Cinderella story
First half is mean girls , in the characters of Japanese matriarch ruling a harem of scared wives and a spoiled princess , including torture and dismembermentā¦.. went on too long . Tired of foot binding culture ruling social classes . Lady Tan and Secret Fan books better.

Hardback , could be a keeper.
Carole Ellis –
Transports you to times of horrific female sacrifices endured merely to survive and avoid a life of torture living in China in the 1800s.

It’s different , if you can get your head round whipping to the back of the book to find english words that the writer has used
