You won’t regret this purchase
A friend told me a few years ago that bidets were the best thing going. Being a stubborn boomer, I ignored him and continued to destroy my nether regions with TP and various methods of assuring complete cleanliness. Finally, push came to shove (ha!) and I needed a solution for my worsening issue with, well, you know what. So I read the reviews, Amazon, Wirecutter, etc, and chose the Toto. It is, quite simply, life-changing.First: ease of install. Yes. And while you don’t have to be a plumber or electrician to install, take your time, read the directions, don’t use tools to tighten where they tell you not to use tools, and you’ll be fine. I have no leaks, no issues. I wish, however that I had a plug closer to the toilet instead of using an extension cord…an easy enough fix.Using: read the directions on what the symbols on the remote mean. I’m a typical male, so I didn’t, figuring I could easily translate the symbols. Nope. If you’ve never used a bidet, read the directions.Does it work? Oh my yes. After an initial adjustment period and experimentation, it is perfect for my nether region’s requirements for absolute cleanliness and “debris” removal.Regrets? Only one, and it’s by no means the fault of my Toto Seat. When I replaced the toilets in my house a few years ago, I screwed up, buying one round bowl and one long bowl. Toto makes seats for both, and I’d be happier if I had a long bowl toilet and a long bowl seat/bidet. But for most, round will be fine, and for now it’s fine for me as well. The heated seat, fan, and warm-water functions are wonderful. The seat is sturdy and appears to be durable. Unlike actual bidet units such as you see 9n Europe, the unit isn’t intimidating and the working bits retract into the seat when not being used, and automatically rinses everything that needs to be rinsed off.In short, buy it. You’ll absolutely love it, as do I. Worth every penny.

Put in one for mom…so good now we’re getting one!
My elderly mom was skeptical that this would help her with “down there” care, but she is now a convert. And installation was a breeze. It is not cheap, but I think you get real value with this unit. A few handy items on installation:1) watch some of the many videos on YouTube before installing.2) if you have a rigid supply line to your toilet, spend a few bucks and get a new one that flexes.3) when you are inserting the Washlet supply line into the T fitting supplied with the unit, you really have to push firmly on that line as you tighten it, or else you will get a small leak.Everything works well on the unit and it is easy to clean and remove. The unit also does not wiggle on the bolts, a fault others have pointed out. I strongly recommend a unit with a remote like this one. Side controls can be hard for those with low vision or in small spaces. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that the supply between the Washlet and toilet sticks out and looks ugly. It it were longer, I think it would be more flexible. It is a bit stiff, and I was afraid bending it would cause a break or leak at one of the ends. And now my husband wants to get one for us!

No idea why these are not standard in the US
Many people in the US think these are weird or have no idea how or why to use them. Think of it as a shower for your undercarriage. Wouldn’t you like to be shower clean before using toilet tissue. These are everywhere in Japan and their bathrooms are spotless even in the roadside rest stops. You will need a GFCI protected circuit or outlet next to the toilet. This particular model has been great for over a year working flawlessly. Warm seat, we are in a cold climate, warm spray water, self cleaning, adjustable spray for male and female as well as oscillating pulsating…what ever works best for you. We mounted the remove on the wall next to the toilet for very easy reach and operation. I would say this unit is outstanding in performance and durability. A friend called these devices life changing, I wouldn’t go that far but would not only recommend them but this model in particular.

functionally good but disappointed re install and appearance
When I built my home, I chose a nice, one-piece Toto toilet. The unit is really well made, it’s got clean lines, it’s tidy looking all of which is, in my view, enhanced by its regular height and, importantly, it’s nice wooden (but white) round seat. I therefore went with the NYTWirecutter suggested washlet, with the round seat.I’m just in the first week of using it and in terms of function, the Wirecutter review is right on point (which isn’t always true with their reviews but is true here) and so I’m happy about that. But I had to confront four unexpected and unfortunate surprises that I don’t recall reading elsewhere.First, if you have a regular, traditional height, all in one toilet, you may – as I had to do – hire a plumber to install the washlet. Regular height toilets, paired with code-compliant supply lines, do not provide adequate space to install the t-connector necessary to install the unit. I had to get my plumber over to shorten the “nipple” (in plumbing terms, the short pipe that brings the water to the tank and that carries the shutoff valve) to provide sufficient space to install a flex line that connected the water supply to the T to the tank. The upshot: in addition to paying much more for the round seat version of the washlet, I had to incur a plumbing bill to install this. Buyer beware.Second, after using a nice, solid wooden Toto seat for so long, I was shocked by the flimsy and cheap plastic of this seat. That has been an unpleasant surprise.Third, and maybe worse, because of the depth of the unit itself at the back of the seat, in order to manufacture a washlet with a round seat, the front of the seat is bizarrely narrow. My old seat was roughly 3″ wide all around. This seat is just over 1″ wide in the front. I’m a small woman but it’s really weird.Fourth, the unit is so big that it dominates the whole toilet. I mean, it’s so tall that it comes up almost halfway up the tank. The bottom line (no pun intended): at this early juncture, I’m optimistic that this was a functional win that I won’t regret getting. But it’s ugly – too big in some ways, weirdly small in others — and installation was much more costly and expensive than I had any reason to anticipate (and by the time I was able to get my plumber here, the window on the return had closed so no possibility to regrouping and going with a different choice).

I’m a bit choked that the “round” version of this is double the price of the elongated shape, but it is an excellent product. The heated seat is a must-have feature! I am a bit wary of the plastic cracking, but the Toto brand feels MUCH more sturdy than the Brondell we tried previously (which was broken from the start and their customer service took three weeks to even get back to us… so we returned it and never went back). I am trusting the Toto reputation and thus far it feels earned!

I’m dealing with an elderly dementia patient and this product make the process so much easier. It’s not perfect, but it eliminates a lot of the manual effort and mess. The installation was relatively painless and it all went well the first time, but the centering instructions could be better. The quality of the product is a little cheap for the price; I can see the cheap plastic breaking over time. The outer seat does not appear to open as wide as it should, I can see a heavy person leaning back against this and breaking it. The lid seems to line up with the hinge, so I assume it’s installed properly. The remote is well thought out and well made, although I’d like to see an auto routine that runs through a series of preprogrammed steps. Better still a phone app with a camera built into the washing tube, so you can see what you’re doing. Ideally, a phone app with AI built in, so Skynet can do a proper job of cleaning your business. I’m only partially kidding about this, just think of the money you could make off the Geeks.Overall I’m happy with the design and build quality of the unit, and remote, other than the chinsy outer cover. In my case, it also covers a real need, and I might enjoy a heat Tushy as well.

There are products you will come across in life that sometimes surprise you in a good way. This is one of them. Can’t go back now. The product heats well and does an excellent job and is good at staying clean. No issues with installation and high marks on ease of use.
